The Son of David

WHAT THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES SAY…

"Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; a King shall reign and prosper, and execute judgement and righteousness in the earth. In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely; now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS." (Jeremiah 23:5-6 )

WHAT THE RABBINIC WRITINGS SAY…

Behold the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise up to David the MESSIAH, who is righteous, and he will reign a King, and shall prosper, and execute the judgement of truth and justice in the earth. (Targum Jonathan)

And they shall worship before the Lord their God, and they shall hearken to MESSIAH, the Son Of David, their King, whom I will raise up unto them.(Targum Jonathan on Jeremiah 30:9,21)

WHAT THE NEW TESTAMENT SAYS…

The book of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham: (Matthew 1:1)

Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD! Hosanna in the highest!" (Matthew 21:9)

From this man’s [David’s] seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Saviour -- Jesus. (Acts 13:23)
