What is Shalom?
Is it a time without war, without civil unrest – a time of reconciliation?
Anyone can start a war - it doesn’t take any special talent, just a big mouth! But not just anyone can stop a war or broker a peace deal. Consider all the wars taking place in the world right now, think of all the terrorist groups and insurgencies. People clearly don’t have any problems starting trouble. The real difficulty comes with putting unrest and trouble to an end.
The lack of peace which exists in our world – between countries, political parties, even families – stems from humankind’s lack, or absence, of peace with our Creator.
It is so difficult to bring peace - that’s why the Nobel Peace Prize exists to honour such achievements. If it takes a big mouth to destroy peace, it takes a big heart to make peace.
It takes a Peacemaker with a big heart - big enough to show us the love our Creator has for us. This Peacemaker lived 2000 years ago and began a peace process in to which each and every generation can enter.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace who came to reconcile us to our Creator.
